Toyota Urban Cruiser unveiled – Electric compact SUV coming at a starting price of €29,990 in 2025

In December 2023, Toyota presented the Urban Concept, followed a year later by the presentation of the production vehicle, the Toyota Urban Cruiser.

Toyota has so far tended to be conspicuous by its absence in terms of electric mobility and has instead achieved strong sales figures with its hybrid vehicles. Now the Japanese are also going on the offensive in electric cars with the new Toyota Urban Cruiser in the compact segment.

As the small, electric brother of the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Urban Cruiser is the next part of Toyota's electric mobility strategy, which aims to have six all-electric models in its portfolio by 2026.

Toyota Urban Cruiser – Exterior Design

The Urban Cruiser is the production vehicle that emerged from the 2023 Urban SUV design study. Despite the name Urban Cruiser based on the Land Cruiser, the new electric SUV comes in compact dimensions: 4,285 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, 1,640 mm high and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

Under the design philosophy of "Urban Tech", the modern Toyota design for SUVs was also implemented for the Urban Cruiser, so that the front as "Hammerhead" resembles the other SUVs of the Japanese. Prominent bumpers at both the rear and front together with the two-tone paintwork ensure a beefy and powerful appearance.

The rear with its continuous light strip above the logo sets accents and is a good recognition feature of the Urban Cruiser. In terms of tires, the Urban Cruiser is delivered on 18 or 19-inch wheels, depending on the equipment, and it also offers two-tone paintwork as a further customization option.

Toyota Urban Cruiser – Drive and battery

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser comes in two different drive and battery variants and is based on a new platform only for electric cars. In addition to front-wheel drive, the Urban Cruiser also offers an all-wheel drive variant. For the battery, there is a choice of 49 to 61 kWh variants, giving the Urban Cruiser ranges of 330 or 420 km according to WLTP.

We also still lack details on the charging capacities, but Toyota has already announced that a heat pump and a battery preheating device will be installed as standard on the Urban Cruiser.

Toyota Urban Cruiser – Interior

In the interior of the Urban Cruiser, the familiar mix of buttons and switches greets you, in addition to the touchscreen as central controls. The central infotainment unit (10.1 inches) and the digital instrument display (10.25 inches) have been combined into one continuous element.

For an extra charge, the interior of the Urban Cruiser also includes a JBL sound system or a glass roof among other extras. In terms of assistance systems, Toyota offers a comprehensive package with adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera and more. For off-road suitability, there is also a trail mode and a snow mode.

Toyota Urban Cruiser – sales launch and price

Toyota's new electric compact SUV is now available for pre-order for €29,990. There are three equipment variants to choose from: Comfort, Teamplayer and Lounge. The basic Comfort model (from € 36,990) is only available with the small battery and already comes with a heat pump and other comprehensive standard equipment. From the mid-range Teamplayer trim level, there is also heated seats, a heated steering wheel and the 61 kWh battery. The top model Lounge (from € 40,990) will then also have all-wheel drive, glass roof, adaptive high beam, 360-degree camera and more.

Deliveries are then scheduled for the second half of 2025. At the start of sales, there will also be special leasing conditions starting at €269/month, which already include maintenance packages.
